ATLANTA (August 7, 2020) | Recently, Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 249 and Senate Bill 394, both sponsored by Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell), into law.
“These two bills represent countless hours of work and cooperation between my colleagues in the Senate, the House of Representatives and the Governor’s Office,” said Sen. Albers. “Both of these measures will have a positive impact on Georgia’s public safety community and will increase retirement benefits for members of the Peace Officer’s Annuity and Benefit Fund and allow the Attorney General of Georgia to more aggressively investigate human trafficking, respectively. These issues are of great importance to me as Chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee and I look forward to continuing our work next year to ensure our public safety community is taken care of and that those who commit horrific crimes are punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
Senate Bill 249 raises the monthly contribution amount and retirement benefits payable to members of the Peace Officer’s Annuity and Benefit Fund, as well as revise the amount it collects from certain fines in criminal cases. It would also allow for the inclusion of jail officers on the list of persons eligible to participate in the fund.
Senate Bill 394 grants authority to the Attorney General to investigate sex trafficking and affairs of the state, as well as investigate and prosecute Medicaid fraud.
