ATLANTA (February 12, 2015) | Georgia State Retirees Association named Sen. Josh McKoon (R-Columbus) as the Senate Legislator of the Year. The award was presented to Sen. McKoon at the joint GSRA-GPHSA Legislative Reception on February 4, 2015. The award is presented annually to the state Senate member who has exhibited the most support of state active and retired employees and educators in the past year.
“I’m honored to receive this award from the GRSA,” said Sen. McKoon. “It is important for our state employees and teachers have input on their health care after they’ve served their communities and our state.”
“We appreciate the support Senator McKoon has provided to GSRA, and look forward to working with him on issues of importance to GSRA in the future,” said GSRA President Russell Hinton.
Senator McKoon received the award based on his work with GSRA to amend SB346 in the 2014 session to provide more transparency and input from stakeholders in the Department of Community Health process for developing and maintaining the State Health Benefit Plan that covers active and retired state employees and teachers.
GSRA is a non-profit, volunteer organization providing advocacy and education on behalf of active and retired state employees and educators and their families. The association is made up of active and retired state employees and educators from across the state of Georgia and across the full spectrum of departments and agencies that make up state government.
