ATLANTA – The Georgia General Assembly recently launched its new public website on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020. This launch is part of the state legislature’s multi-year software project to modernize its Legislative Management System (LMS); the new public website is the first phase of updating this legislative technology package.
“I’m proud that we are making it easier than ever for Georgians to access important information and stay informed about what’s going on at your state capitol,” said Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). “This new website is part of our ongoing efforts to modernize our legislative technology, and, as this project moves into the next phase, you will continue to see additional updates and improvements.”
“Technology is at the core of almost every business and organization, and government should be no different,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “I am proud of the diligent work done to reach this significant milestone- the modernization of the legislature’s website. This updated platform ensures user-friendly access for anyone trying to stay updated on the General Assembly’s work under the gold dome.”
“The launch of the General Assembly’s new website is a major step forward as we work to make the legislature more accessible and user-friendly,” said President Pro Tempore Butch Miller (R – Gainesville). “The new look and enhanced features offered in the new website make Georgia’s legislature more transparent and grants the public more access than ever to legislation, committee information, livestreaming video and so much more. I am especially thankful to the Senate staff who dedicated their time and knowledge to ensure this website contains the many additions and tools necessary to share their important work with the public. I look forward to sharing additional updates in the future as the website moves into its next phase.”
The new website has a modern look and feel with a unified design and maintains individual branding for the House and Senate. It now has a mobile-first responsive design for phones and tablets and contains a new streamlined menu structure for easy navigation. The new homepage provides quick access to House and Senate meeting schedules, committee meetings and important legislative documents, such as Rules Committee bill calendars and daily voting composites. The site also includes updated search functions to find legislation and individual legislators, and it also features a new “Chamber News and Events” section to increase awareness of House and Senate events at the Capitol and across the state.
The launch of the new public website completes the first milestone in the multi-year LMS modernization project. However, due to the integration between the previous website and the new LMS, complete upgrades for full website functionality were not made during this initial project phase. As such, some links may navigate to the previous version of the website. These links and pages will be completely updated at a later date as part of the full Legislative Management System implementation. Future phases will also bring other new features and functionality to the Georgia General Assembly website.
