Budget Discussions Begin with Agency Hearings

ATLANTA (January 23, 2009) – This week, as I sat with my Senate and House colleagues through state budget hearings, I was encouraged to see a sense of cooperation emerging. Our state leaders have been advocating such cooperation since the beginning of session, as it is the only way we will solve the serious issues facing our state. I was proud to watch an historic presidential inauguration this week, and can only hope to see a similar spirit of cooperation from our colleagues in Washington. No matter our political party, we must give the new administration our full support. It is in everyone’s best interest to see our new president succeed in making the right choices for our country.

Senate and House Begin Budget Hearings

ATLANTA (January 21, 2009) — The Senate and House Appropriations Committees began their joint budget hearings today at the state Capitol, led by co-chairmen Senator Jack Hill (R-Reidsville) and Representative Ben Harbin (R-Evans). Lawmakers heard presentations on the Department of Revenue, Education, Natural Resources and the Judicial Branch.

Education and Youth Committee Convenes for Session Overview

ATLANTA (January 15, 2009)— The Education and Youth Committee held a joint session today to outline this year’s goals to improve Georgia’s school systems. Georgia State Senator Dan Weber (R-Dunwoody) co-chaired the meeting and is prepared to support the committee in this session’s production of constructive legislation.
