Sen. Murphy Applauds New Public Safety Laws

ATLANTA (May 7, 2009) – Legislation that will greatly enhance road safety and build a trauma care system was signed into law by Governor Sonny Perdue Tuesday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Governor Perdue formally approved Georgia’s first “Super Speeder” bill seeking to reduce dangerous driving with hefty fines which will be utilized to fund a statewide trauma network. Sen Jack Murphy (R-Cumming), chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee, helped this measure pass through the legislature and views the increased fines as a strong tool to improve the quality of life in Georgia. State Sen. Johnson’s Tax Oversight Provision becomes Law

ATLANTA (May 6, 2009) – Governor Sonny Perdue yesterday signed into law Senate Bill 168 (SB 168), which included Sen. Eric Johnson’s provision requiring the Department of Revenue commissioner to report annually the names of legislators who avoid filing their taxes to their respective Senate or House Ethics Committee. As chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee, Johnson took swift action this session to ensure that Georgians have a right to know if their elected officials evade that responsibility.
