Sen. Murphy Applauds New Public Safety Laws
ATLANTA (May 7, 2009) – Legislation that will greatly enhance road safety and build a trauma care system was signed into law by Governor Sonny Perdue Tuesday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Governor Perdue formally approved Georgia’s first “Super Speeder” bill seeking to reduce dangerous driving with hefty fines which will be utilized to fund a statewide trauma network. Sen Jack Murphy (R-Cumming), chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee, helped this measure pass through the legislature and views the increased fines as a strong tool to improve the quality of life in Georgia. Governor Signs Housing Tax Credit Championed by Sen. Pearson
ATLANTA (May 11, 2009) – Governor Sonny Perdue today signed an $1,800 home buying tax credit that Sen. Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville) carried to final passage in the Senate during the 2009 legislative session. He worked with the bill’s author, Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah), to bring relief to Georgia’s housing market.

Rogers: Governor Signs Property Tax Assessment Cap
ATLANTA (May 8, 2009) – Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law this week a measure designed to prevent property tax increases. House Bill 233 prohibits any increase in assessed property values for the next two years. Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) sponsored the legislation in the Senate. Sen. Jones Awarded Legislator of the Year by Dekalb Educators
ATLANTA (May 7, 2009) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) was recently honored as Legislator of the Year by the Organization of DeKalb Educators (ODE). Sen. Jones is a two-time recipient of the award having previously earned the title in 2006, making this the first time in history the award has been given to a legislator twice.
