Sen. Orrock Joins Legislative Delegation in Washington to Urge Action on Health Care Reform

ATLANTA (June 19, 2009) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) this week joined a delegation of state leaders on Capitol Hill to deliver a letter to the White House and Congress urging comprehensive health care reform within the year. The letter, which was signed by over 700 state legislators from 48 states, including Sen. Orrock and 12 other Georgia legislators, called for the federal reform bill to include the choice of a public health insurance option, strong affordability protections, and shared responsibility for health care costs.

Vance Smith (R-Pine Mountain) being unanimously elected as Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Commissioner and Todd Long being appointed the Director of Planning for the GDOT. The planning director position was created by the General Assembly this spring with the passage of Senate Bill 200.

Sen. Smith Honors Fallen Georgia Soldier in Motorcycle Escort

ATLANTA (June 12, 2009) – Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome) yesterday joined the Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia to escort fallen soldier Sgt. Jeffrey W. Jordan of Rome from the Richard B. Russell Airport to the funeral home in preparation for burial. Jordan, 21, died June 4 near Kapisa, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
