Sen. Buckner announces Leadership Roundtable of Clayton County

ATLANTA (September 15, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) will co-host a Leadership Roundtable of Clayton County with Lake City Mayor Willie Oswalt on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Lake City Council Chamber.  All elected officials in Clayton County are invited to attend the roundtable to discuss new and positive initiatives within the community.  This is the first in a series of meetings that will rotate each month, and the first meeting will feature a keynote presentation on the Constitutional Amendments that will appear on the General Election ballot on November 2.  The general public is encouraged to attend.

Sen. Rogers Selected to Join National Digital Education Council

WOODSTOCK (Sept. 15, 2010) – Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) was recently selected to serve as a member of Gov. Jeb Bush’s Foundation for Excellence in Education Digital Learning Council.  The Council will work to identify policies that will integrate current and future technological innovations into public education. The Digital Learning Council unites a diverse group of nearly 50 national leaders from education, government, philanthropy, business, technology, and think tanks to develop the roadmap of reform for local, state and federal lawmakers and policymakers. Sen. Jones Announces Henry County Town Hall Meetings

ATLANTA (September 13, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) will hold two town hall meetings in Henry County later this month.  On Thursday, Sept. 23, Jones will hold a joint meeting with Henry County Commissioner Johnny Basler at Woodland Elementary School to discuss local issues and deliver a legislative wrap up of the 2010 Legislative Session.  The public is encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to ask questions.

DAWSONVILLE (September 10, 2010) – As autumn approaches, the North Georgia Mountains are gearing up for a busy fall season.  Our beautiful mountain communities play host to a variety of activities in the fall, from the Ellijay Apple Festival, Oktoberfest in Helen, Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega and of course my personal favorite, the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival.  These experiences are made all the more unique with Georgia’s touch of southern hospitality.  Our ability to make anyone and everyone feel welcome is a quality that can give our state a competitive edge in tourism.

DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee to Hold First Meeting at the Capitol

ATLANTA (September 8, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) will co-chair the first meeting of the DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 in Room 341 of the State Capitol.  The meeting will feature a presentation from State Superintendent of Schools Brad Bryant.  The media is invited to participate in a question and answer session after the presentations, and the public is encouraged to attend.
