ATLANTA (Feb. 11, 2010) – State lawmakers today welcomed Boy Scout troops from across Georgia to celebrate 100 years of scouting during Boy Scouts of America Day at the Georgia State Capitol. Representatives of the Department of Natural Resources were also on hand to announce the “Scouting for State Parks” initiative that will engage thousands of scouts and volunteers to help maintain Georgia’s state parks.

ATLANTA (Feb. 11, 2010) –Legislation aimed to protect Georgia’s citizens from being forced into government-run health care passed out of a key committee and is on its way to the Senate floor. The Health Care Freedom of Choice Constitutional Amendment (Senate Resolution 794) and its companion bill (Senate Bill 317), authored by State Sen. Lt. Gov. Cagle, Senate Welcome New Sen. Hardie Davis
ATLANTA (Feb. 10, 2010) – This week, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle formally introduced new state Sen. Hardie Davis (D-Augusta) to the Georgia Senate and appointed him to committees as he officially begins his term serving the 22nd Senate District. Sen. Judson Hill Announces Bi-Partisan Resolution Supporting Breast Cancer Screenings for Women
MARIETTA (Feb. 10, 2010) – State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) has authored a resolution urging the United States Congress, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services to ignore recent guidelines issued by the United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) stating breast cancer screenings can be delayed until age 50. Sen. Jones Announces GLBC Heritage Dinner
ATLANTA (Feb. 9, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur), chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), is announcing the annual Heritage Dinner at the Georgia Freight Depot, one of the most successful and well-attended cultural events around the Georgia State Capitol during the legislative session. Invitees include keynote speaker Dick Gregory, an activist, comedian and humanitarian, as well as Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. The event will also feature music by Kandi Burress, cast member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. This GLBC dinner celebrates African-American history by exhibiting paintings, music, and dance, as well as acknowledging community activists who diligently serve to improve and enhance communities of color in Georgia. Proceeds raised will help support the GLBC’s Young Scholars Scholarship and Legislative Internship programs.
