Update from the Capitol: Week Nine

With the completion of Crossover Day last week, the Senate has switched gears to focus on the many House bills there are to study and vote on before our final deadline of Sine Die. With just 8 legislative days and three weeks left in the 2018 session, we will be working harder than ever to ensure all House and amended Senate bills get the attention they deserve before heading to the Governor’s desk for approval. Update from the Capitol: Week Eight

This week in the Senate, the Crossover Day deadline was passed as we officially completed days 27, 28 and 29 of the legislative session. While there were many important pieces of legislation passed on the floor on Crossover Day, arguably the biggest piece of legislation to come before the Senate in years, House Bill 918, passed the day after. This legislation will reduce the current 6 percent top income tax rate in Georgia to 5.75 percent in 2019 and 5.5 percent in 2020. It will also double the standard deduction from $3,000 to $6,000.

Sen. Larry Walker Welcomes Byron Elementary Navy Junior ROTC

ATLANTA (February 26, 2018)  |  Sens. Larry Walker (R – Perry) and John F. Kennedy (R – Macon) welcomed Byron Elementary School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) to the state Capitol on Friday, February 23, 2018. Byron Elementary School, located in Peach County, is the only elementary school in Georgia to offer a Junior ROTC program.
