Update from the Capitol: Week 6

By: Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry)

As we reach roughly the halfway point of the legislative session, our work is beginning to accelerate and the Senate has been efficient, yet also deliberate, in our efforts to pass legislation. Of the bills that have come before us, I believe we have passed several of value that will help improve the lives of Georgians. A reminder to you, that we are working to serve each corner of this great state. Several more are still up for consideration and as the weeks go on, we will continue to represent your needs here in Atlanta.

Update from the Capitol: Week

By: Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry)

Our work in the General Assembly carried on this week and with 16 legislative days behind us and over 10 bills passed on the Senate Floor, I believe we are working efficiently to pass pieces of legislation that promote the good of this state. While Georgia has shown its strength and resilience throughout the pandemic, the conversations I have had with you make me well aware of the issues still affecting our district. As we continue to find ways we can better your lives, communities and businesses, know that I am working on behalf of you.

Update from the Capitol: Week 4

By: Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry)

As the legislative session continues on, our work in the state Capitol has reached a steady pace and our time has been split between Appropriations meetings, to discuss the Amended Fiscal Year 2021 (AFY21 budget), and standing committee meetings to review legislation. Update from the Capitol: The Start of Committee Meetings

By: Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry)

Last week, we began the monumental task of working to pass an amended FY ‘21 budget and a balanced budget for the 2022 fiscal term; a task that while routinely requires careful and meticulous deliberation, has taken on even more significance in the wake of COVID-19. The painstaking work we have ahead of ourselves, in terms of subcommittee meetings and prioritizing resources, will undoubtedly offer its challenges but we are eager to fulfil our constitutional duty in an as expeditious yet thoughtful approach as possible, in order to get it done before a possible a COVID-19 outbreak here at the Capitol shuts us down. During the first week of the legislative session, my colleagues and I took an oath to represent the people of this great state and to advocate for the needs of our constituents, in all that we do, and funding state government in a fiscally responsible manner is a duty that we take very seriously. I feel blessed to be able to serve as a voice for District 20 and to demonstrate my commitment to that responsibility in the days and weeks before us.

Capitol Recap: Budget Week – A Look at Georgia’s Economy

By: Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry)

While the first week of the Senate offered a small glimpse at the many ceremonial traditions of the Gold Dome and the typical pomp and circumstance of an elected office, the resiliency of our state took precedence in the previous days, as we began the tedious, yet fulfilling work of “Budget Week.” Referred to as a time when the General Assembly takes a brief hiatus from our regular legislative days in order to conduct in-depth budget hearings with representatives from our state agencies, the week was filled with a strong reminder of the effects of the pandemic, but it also displayed the ways in which our state has overcome. Georgia is stronger than it has been and while we must continue to weather the storms, I am confident in the future of our great state.
