ATLANTA – (January 16, 2009) State Senator Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) held a press conference today urging President-Elect Barack Obama to issue an executive order granting ethnic minority automobile dealers immediate financial assistance and access to funding through the Small Business Administration (SBA). A successful auto dealer himself, Sen. Jones owns one of the largest African-American owned businesses in Atlanta.

Senate Sales Tax Study Committee Proposes Local Tax Collection Choice in Legislation Draft

ATLANTA (January 5, 2009) – The Senate Local Sales Tax Collection Study Committee met at the Capitol for the final time today and introduced a draft legislation entitled the “Local Tax Collection Act.” The Act would allow local governments to choose their preferred method of sales tax collection.

Sen. Jones to be Featured on FOX Sports Pre-game Show

ATLANTA – (December 18, 2008) Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) was interviewed by FOX Sports this week regarding his leadership in changing Georgia sex offender laws so they are appropriately applied to the crimes committed. The cases of Marcus Dixon and Genarlow Wilson, both charged with sexual offenses after having teenage consensual sex, demonstrated the need for sentencing reform. Dixon now plays for the Dallas Cowboys. Sen. Jones’ interview will air this Sunday, December 21 at 12:00 p.m. on the Fox Sports network.

Sen. Jones Elected 2009 Chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus

ATHENS – (December 15, 2008) Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) has recently been elected to serve as the 2009 chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC). Sen. Jones was elected during the caucus’ meeting last week at the Biennial Institute for Georgia Legislators held at the University of Georgia in Athens. He was elected by the caucus’ 50 plus members to serve a two-year term as chairman, beginning in January.
