ATLANTA (Feb. 16, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) is encouraging the media and concerned public to join him and members of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) at tonight’s Clayton County Commissioners board meeting at 7:00 p.m., where he will address the commission on their decision to shut down C-TRAN. Other stakeholders in Georgia’s transportation will be present to speak as well.

ATLANTA (Feb. 15, 2010) – In less than two months, Clayton County citizens could lose their most affordable means of public transportation. The county commissioners’ decision to stop service after March 31 has drastic implications for Clayton County and the entire state. Wiping out the C-TRAN system means losing jobs, valuable transportation infrastructure and economic vitality.

ATLANTA (Feb. 9, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur), chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), is announcing the annual Heritage Dinner at the Georgia Freight Depot, one of the most successful and well-attended cultural events around the Georgia State Capitol during the legislative session. Invitees include keynote speaker Dick Gregory, an activist, comedian and humanitarian, as well as Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. The event will also feature music by Kandi Burress, cast member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. This GLBC dinner celebrates African-American history by exhibiting paintings, music, and dance, as well as acknowledging community activists who diligently serve to improve and enhance communities of color in Georgia. Proceeds raised will help support the GLBC’s Young Scholars Scholarship and Legislative Internship programs.

Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and members of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) will hold a public hearing to discuss funding options for the C-TRAN public transit system in Clayton County. All major stakeholders have been invited to join the discussion, including Clayton County commissioners, ITT Technical Institute, Clayton State University, business leaders and labor organizations.
