Child Welfare Reform Bill Becomes Georgia Law

ATLANTA (May 7, 2015)  |  On May 5, 2015, Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill into Georgia law that will reform the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and provide greater accountability for child abuse records. The bill also creates DFCS advisory boards and establishes specific measures related to case records. Sen. Opportunity School Districts Bill Signed into Law

ATLANTA (April 22, 2015)  |  Sen. Butch Miller (R- Gainesville) joined Gov. Nathan Deal yesterday  as he signed SB 133 into law.  This measure, also known as Opportunity School Districts, will allow the state to help improve schools that continually struggle to meet educational goals and standards.  SR287, the companion resolution approved by the General Assembly last month, will be posed to voters as constitutional amendment in the next general election. This legislative package is part of Gov. Nathan Deal’s comprehensive plan to boost student achievement and create more educational opportunities for Georgia students. Child Welfare Reform Bill Passes the Georgia State Senate

ATLANTA (March 13, 2015)  |  A bill that will reform the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and provide greater accountability in regards to child abuse records and reporting passed the Georgia State Senate today. Senate Bill 138 is strongly supported by Gov. Nathan Deal and was sponsored by Sen. Butch Miller (R – Gainesville). The bill, which creates DFCS advisory boards and establishes specific measures related to case records, passed by a vote of 41 to 3.

Sen. Butch Miller Named a Recipient of ACCG’s 2014 Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA (November 14, 2014) | Sen. Butch Miller (R – Gainesville) was honored with ACCG’s 2014 Legislative Service Award at the organization’s Fall District Meeting on November 12. The award recognizes his efforts to improve public policy directly affecting Georgia county operations and infrastructure during the 2014 legislative session. Sen. Miller was specifically praised for his work on House Bill 310 and Senate Bill 297, both of which were successfully signed into Georgia law before the conclusion of the legislative session.
