Sen. Freddie Powell-Sims and Lt. Governor Burt Jones Announce Tour and Media Availability in Southwest Georgia

ATLANTA (September 18, 2023) | Next week, Senator Freddie Powell-Sims (D – Dawson), Lt. Governor Jones, Senate President Pro Tempore John F. Kennedy (R – Macon), and additional members of the Senate body will gather in Albany, Georgia for a comprehensive community tour. Attendees will engage directly with the residents of Southwest Georgia through a number of stops around the area.

A significant part of the tour includes a walkthrough of Albany State University, during which the group will engage with academic leaders, students, and faculty to discuss how higher education impacts the region. Following the tour, there will be a media Q&A session. .

Joint Study Committee on Dual Enrollment for Highly Skilled Talent at Younger Ages to Hold Third Meeting

ATLANTA (September 14, 2023) | On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the Joint Study Committee on Dual Enrollment for Highly Skilled Talent at Younger Ages, Co-Chaired by Senator Matt Brass (R – Newnan) and Representative Matt Dubnik (R – Gainesville) will conduct its third meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Georgia State Capitol in room 450.
Sponsored by Sen. Brass, Senate Resolution 175 established the Study Committee during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session. The aim of the committee is to explore opportunities for younger students to start dual-enrollment programs and further develop highly skilled talent.

ATLANTA (September 14, 2023) | On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the Senate Study Committee on Truck Driver Shortages, chaired by Senator Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas), will be holding its second meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company United in Union City, Georgia. The Senate Study Committee on Truck Driver Shortages was created pursuant to Senate Resolution 155, sponsored by Sen. Anavitarte, which passed with bipartisan support during the 2023 Legislative Session. This study committee is charged with hearing testimony from industry leaders and educators regarding strategies to meet this need in Georgia.

ATLANTA (September 14, 2023) | On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the Senate Study Committee on Expanding Georgia’s Workforce, chaired by Senator John Albers (R – Roswell), will be holding its fourth meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Cultural Arts Center in Commerce, Georgia. The Senate Study Committee was created pursuant to Senate Resolution 275, sponsored by Sen. Albers, which passed during the 2023 Legislative Session with bipartisan support. This committee was established to fulfill one of Lt. Governor Burt Jones priorities for the 2023 session. The committee is comprised of both legislative and non-legislative members: Sen. Albers as Chairman, Sen. Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta), Sen. Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta), Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta), Sen.
