ATLANTA (February 14, 2023) | Today, State Senator Ed Setzler (R – Acworth) introduced Senate Bill 180, providing state-level protection for people of all faiths by simply mirroring current federal law. The bill text adapts the same language from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) passed by Congress in 1993 and applies it to the state and local levels.

ATLANTA (February 14, 2023) | On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 1:00 pm, Senator Ed Setzler (R – Acworth) will hold a press conference on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Religious Freedom Act would excuse any Georgian from any state or local law, policy, or other government action that they claim could burden their exercise of religion.

Senate Passes Clarence Thomas Monument Bill

ATLANTA (February 14, 2023) | Today, the Georgia State Senate passed Senate Bill 69. Sponsored by Sen. Ben Watson (R – Savannah), it would provide placement of a monument for the Honorable Clarence Thomas within the capitol building or the capitol grounds. Funding for the monument would be collected from gifts or donations given by individuals, organizations and foundations. A monument committee would be established to discuss the placement of the monument and would consist of two State Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House, two State Senators appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, and one from each chamber appointed by the Governor.

Senate Committee on Interstate Cooperation to Hold Hearing on Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking

ATLANTA (February 8, 2023) | On Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1 pm, Senator Colton Moore (R – Trenton), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interstate Cooperation, will hold a committee hearing on Georgia’s cooperation with Texas regarding shared concerns of border security and illegal immigration.
