Senate Passes Clarence Thomas Monument Bill

ATLANTA (February 14, 2023) | Today, the Georgia State Senate passed Senate Bill 69. Sponsored by Sen. Ben Watson (R – Savannah), it would provide placement of a monument for the Honorable Clarence Thomas within the capitol building or the capitol grounds. Funding for the monument would be collected from gifts or donations given by individuals, organizations and foundations. A monument committee would be established to discuss the placement of the monument and would consist of two State Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House, two State Senators appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, and one from each chamber appointed by the Governor.

Senate Committee on Interstate Cooperation to Hold Hearing on Illegal Immigration and Human Trafficking

ATLANTA (February 8, 2023) | On Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1 pm, Senator Colton Moore (R – Trenton), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interstate Cooperation, will hold a committee hearing on Georgia’s cooperation with Texas regarding shared concerns of border security and illegal immigration. This hearing will bring together local, state and federal officials to review the combined interstate efforts to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking in Georgia. Witnesses listed below.

Senator Chuck Hufstetler Holds Press Conference Along with Secretary of State Raffensperger

ATLANTA (February 7, 2023) | Yesterday, State Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome) held a press conference along with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to introduce Senate Bill 84. SB 84 would provide for financial protections, delay in disbursements and liability protections for elder and disabled adults who may be victims of financial exploitation. This bill would protect citizens who are mentally or physically disabled and citizens 65 and over.
