Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes Sworn-In for Second Term

ATLANTA (January 16, 2025) — This week, Sen. Nabilah Islam Parkes (D–Duluth) was sworn in for her second term representing Georgia’s 7th Senate District, joined by her husband and son, baby Ahsan. Senator Islam Parkes also received appointments to the Senate Committees on Banking and Financial Institutions, Children and Families, Science and Technology and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security.

“As the daughter of working-class immigrants, I will always use my voice to uplift our diverse communities,” said Georgia state senator Nabilah Islam Parkes. “As a new mother, I understand what families are facing in Georgia. I’m prepared to do everything possible to make Georgia a place where families can get ahead and kids can thrive.”

Sen. Islam Parkes was also recently elected co-chair of the Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus. The caucus is composed of a bipartisan, bicameral body of female legislators dedicated to serving Georgians.

Sen. Bill Cowsert Appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries & Utilities

ATLANTA (January 16, 2025) – This week, Senator Bill Cowsert (R–Athens) was reappointed by Lt. Governor Burt Jones and the Senate Committee on Assignments as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities. Sen. Cowsert was first appointed chair of the committee in 2019 and has chaired the committee in the six legislative sessions since then.

Sen. Chuck Payne Joins Gov. Brian Kemp and Members of State Leadership on America’s Southern Border

ATLANTA (December 23, 2024) — On Friday, December 20, Sen. Chuck Payne (R–Dalton), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security Committee, traveled to Texas alongside Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Speaker of the House Jon Burns and House member and veteran Rep. Chas Cannon. The delegation visited Georgia National Guard troops currently deployed at the southern border to express gratitude for their service during the holiday season. The group was joined by House Veterans Committee Chairman Josh Bonner, who serves in the Georgia National Guard and is currently deployed in Texas.
