Senate Provides Clarity in citizens’ Private Right to Sue

ATLANTA (Feb 17, 2010) – The Georgia State Senate today voted to provide greater clarity in citizens’ private right to sue through the passage of the Transparency in Lawsuits Protection Act (SB 138).  Sponsored by Sen. John Wiles (R-Kennesaw), SB 138 is based on American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) model legislation and calls for transparency in the legislative creation of new private rights to sue and would give the judiciary clear guidelines on statutes so that legislative decision-making authority is not side-stepped or misinterpreted.

Working Families Legislative Caucus Promotes Solutions to Address Revenue Shortfalls

Sen. Smith Announces Funding and Efficiency Bill for Georgia’s Courts

ATLANTA – (Feb. 16, 2010) Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today introduced bipartisan legislation to enhance funding and efficiency for Georgia’s overburdened courts.  A judicial operations fund will be created under Senate Bill 429 to fund the operations of the courts and a significant portion of judges’ salaries.  The bill also appoints additional members to Georgia’s Supreme Court and Court of Appeals to help expedite case load.

Senator Jeff Mullis introduces Blue Alert Bill for capturing criminals who have injured or killed law enforcement officers
