ATLANTA (April 20, 2010) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) today presented Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Atlanta journalist Douglas Blackmon with a Senate Resolution commending his achievements in journalism.  Author of “Slavery by Another Name,” Blackmon is The Wall Street Journal’s bureau chief in Atlanta and a celebrated writer on race in America.

Georgia’s Critical Role in our Nation’s Energy and Economic Future

ATLANTA (April 19, 2010) – Georgians applaud President Obama’s decision to allow offshore drilling along the mid-Atlantic coast. With the state unemployment rate at 10.6 percent, we understand that tapping into U.S. oil and natural gas resources offshore would create hundreds of thousands of new, well-paying jobs, boost the state and local economies, and help secure our energy future. We also know many factors play a role in whether or not development will ever occur. If the president has our best interest in mind, he needs to act quickly and prudently on his words.

ATLANTA (April 19, 2010) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will recognize Pulitzer Prize-winning author Douglas Blackmon in the Senate Chamber tomorrow. Author of “Slavery by Another Name,” Blackmon currently serves as The Wall Street Journal’s bureau chief in Atlanta. Goggans’ Government Transparency Enhancement Close to Becoming Law

DOUGLAS, GA (Apr. 16, 2010) – Policy authored by State Sen. Greg Goggans (R-Douglas) requiring greater transparency in state government was included in a piece of legislation overwhelmingly approved by the Georgia Senate Wednesday and after final approval from the Georgia House will soon become law.  Goggans carried House Bill 1284 in the Senate, which contains the language from his Senate Bill 381 requiring the Office of Planning and Budget (OPB) to include in the Governor’s Budget Report a comprehensive account of all fees collected and administered by the state.
