Bill to Eliminate Portion of Cherokee Property Taxes Moves Forward!

ATLANTA (March 15, 2012) – The Georgia Senate has passed a local homestead option sales tax legislation authored by Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers. This plan could eliminate the County portion of the property tax for Cherokee homeowners.

ATLANTA (March 15, 2012) – We are now in the final stretch of the 2012 session.  At the end of the 10th week, we have completed 33 legislative days.  The Senate is now reviewing House bills and the 2013 Fiscal Year budget as Sine Die – the last day of session – quickly approaches.

Senate Passes Title 20 Clean-Up Bill

ATLANTA (March 14, 2012) – Sen. Lindsey Tippins (R-Marietta) sponsored HB 706 in the Senate today.  This legislation deletes obsolete, unused and unnecessary provisions relating to elementary and secondary education within the Title 20 code.  HB 706 passed with a vote of 39-11.

House Bill on Foreclosed Real Property Registration Passes Senate

ATLANTA (March 12, 2012) – Sen. Jesse Stone (R-Waynesboro) presented HB 110 to standardize state-wide vacant property registries in the Senate today.  The bill passed with a vote of 33-15.
