ATLANTA (February 4, 2016) | As part of a statewide initiative, Sen. William Ligon (R – Brunswick) is calling on all Georgians to honor our Vietnam Veterans. The multimedia display at the new Education Center at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall (‘The Wall’) is still missing many pictures of Georgia’s fallen Vietnam War Veterans. The display honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War, including 1,584 Georgia soldiers. This effort is part of a national program by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) to put a face with each of the 58,300 fallen veterans from across the nation whose names appear on ‘The Wall.’ Continue reading “Sen. Sen. Steve Gooch Files Legislation to Study High-Speed Broadband Internet Access
ATLANTA (February 4, 2016) | Sen. Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega) has filed legislation to create the Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for All Georgians Study Committee. If approved by the Georgia General Assembly, Senate Resolution 876 will meet several times throughout the summer and fall of 2016 to discuss common obstacles for high-speed broadband internet, particularly in the state’s rural communities. ATLANTA (February 3, 2016) | Sen. Greg Kirk (R – Americus) and Rep. Ed Rynders (R – Albany) commend Gov. Nathan Deal for his allocation of $1.6 million in the FY2017 General Budget for renovations and new construction to Worth County Schools. Sen. Charlie Bethel Files Interstate Power Compact Legislation
ATLANTA (February 2, 2016) | Sen. Charlie Bethel (R – Dalton) has filed legislation that would enter the state of Georgia in the Interstate Power Compact upon legislative approval. The Interstate Power Compact seeks to increase state autonomy over environmental protections and provide more affordable access to reliable sources of electricity. The Georgia Senate is Rocking and Rolling
The Senate reconvened for week four after a busy third week of budget hearings and committee meetings. It was also a very productive week in that we’ve finally got the ball rolling on a number of pieces of legislation that are sure to benefit the people of Georgia. We also heard the first two bills of the session on the floor last week—signaling that the 2016 legislative session is well underway. Senate Bill 137 would expand current Georgia law to allow corporations to collect full property insurance payouts when a residence is completely destroyed by fire, and was unanimously passed.
