Alpha Gamma Rho Honored by Georgia State Senate

022013_AGR_groupATLANTA (February 22, 2013) – Members of the Alpha Gamma Rho professional fraternity were honored with Senate Resolution 193 at the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, February 20. Over 100 active brothers from the Alpha Eta chapter at The University of Georgia and the Gamma Delta chapter from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College were present to visit with legislators and other elected officials, including ten alumni members of the fraternity.

Senate Resolution 193 designated February 20 as Alpha Gamma Rho Day at the State Capitol and commended the fraternity for their leadership and agricultural work. Members of Alpha Gamma Rho are uniquely united by a common interest in careers related to the agriculture, food or fiber industries. The fraternity’s professional focus places an emphasis on leadership, career development and connects members with educational seminars, networking, internship opportunities and agriculture associations.

“The opportunities provided to me by Alpha Gamma Rho have been invaluable and promoted my professional and legislative endeavors,” said Sen. Frank Ginn (R – Danielsville), an alumni member of Alpha Gamma Rho. “It was an honor to host the active members and many alumni at the State Capitol and connect them with individuals who can help facilitate some of their career goals.”

“It was a huge honor to be able to participate in Alpha Gamma Rho Day at the Capitol.  The undergraduate members were incredibly excited and proud to visit the Capitol and take part in such a momentous occasion for our fraternity.  It was very rewarding to have the opportunity to see all of our members’ hard work pay off, and I would like to thank the Georgia General Assembly for their hospitality,” said Chase Cowart, President of the Alpha Eta chapter at The University of Georgia.

Alpha Gamma Rho members also participated in a luncheon at the State Capitol that was graciously sponsored by the Georgia Poultry Federation, Georgia Farm Bureau, Georgia EMC, the Georgia Agribusiness Council, and Hobbs & Associates.

Other legislative alumni of Alpha Gamma Rho who were present include Sen. John Crosby (R – Tifton), Sen. Tyler Harper (R – Ocilla), Sen. John Wilkinson (R – Toccoa), Rep. Ellis Black (R – Valdosta), Rep. Tom McCall (R – Elberton), Rep. Sam Watson (R – Moultrie) and Rep. Chuck Williams (R – Watkinsville). Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black, Department of Agriculture COO Billy Skaggs and President of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Dr. David Bridges are other notable alumni who were present.
