Sen. Larry Walker Welcomes Bleckley County FFA Forestry Team

ATLANTA (February 27, 2018)  |  Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) welcomed the Bleckley County FFA Forestry Team to the state Capitol on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. The Bleckley County FFA Forestry Team placed first at the 2017 National FFA Convention Career Development Event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“I am very proud of these young individuals and was honored to welcome them to the Capitol to congratulate them on their national win,” said Sen. Walker. “This team is an excellent example of what a strong background in agriculture education can provide and I am thankful to have students like these representing district 20 and the state of Georgia on a national level.”

The Bleckley County FFA Forestry Team, led by Mr. Doyle Floyd, was one of 41 teams from across the country to compete at the national competition, beating the second place team by 137 points. The team participated in a variety of practicum skill sets, including tree identification, tree measurement, map interpretation, knowledge of forest products and forest business management.

In addition to the team victory, several members of the team also had individual wins. Blake Bohannon placed first, Tucker Felkins placed second, Jacob Smith placed third, and Leann Hearn placed seventh in the individual rankings, and all members of the winning team received scholarships.
