Board of Community Health Bill Passes Senate

ATLANTA (February 18, 2014) |  Senate Bill 346, sponsored by Sen. Josh McKoon (R-Columbus), passed the Georgia State Senate today by a vote of 51 to 0. If signed into law, the bill will require at least one member of the Board of Community Health to serve as a member of the State Health Benefit Plan.

“I am pleased by the passage of Senate Bill 346 today,” said Sen. McKoon. “This legislation will allow greater oversight by requiring a member of the Board of Community Health to participate in the State Health Benefit Plan.”

Under this legislation, the Board of Community Health will consist of nine members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. All members will serve three year terms, which will take effect on July 1, 2014. Any member of the Board who is in office on July 1, 2014 will be required to serve out the remainder of their term.

Senate Bill 346 will now be passed to the House of Representatives for consideration.
