ATLANTA (September 27, 2013) – Senator Hardie Davis (D – Augusta) spoke at a Digital Literacy Rally on Wednesday at the E.W. Hagler Club in support of expanding digital literacy initiatives by increasing access to technology.
“Digital literacy is a crucial skill that everyone should learn and regularly practice in a technology-driven world,” said Senator Davis. “Whether it is preparing a PowerPoint or applying for a job, digital literacy is pivotal in our daily lives. I am happy to support this great campaign and pledge to continue working to closing the digital literacy divide.”
Hosted by Comcast and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Central Savannah River Area (CRSA), the rally was the launch event for Internet Essentials; a Comcast program that provides low cost broadband Internet, computers and online training to families with children in the National School Lunch Program.
During the rally, the Comcast Foundation announced its continued support of Club Tech. The program is managed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA and focuses on improving the digital literacy skills of its members.
As of September 2013, the Internet Essentials Program has assisted approximately 220,000 low-income American families by providing a broadband connection at home for educational learning purposes.
