Senator Sonya Halpern Appointed to Study Committee on Expanding Georgia’s Workforce

ATLANTA (May 25, 2023) | Yesterday, Lt. Governor Burt Jones announced his appointments to the Senate Study Committee on Expanding Georgia’s Workforce, including Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta).

“Creating opportunities for Georgians and supporting a thriving workforce is one of my top priorities as a state Senator,” said Sen. Halpern. “Our economy is strong, and as a Senator who represents the heart of Atlanta, I am keenly aware of some challenges that employers in every sector are facing while recruiting for modern jobs, as well as the challenges that job seekers face while searching for employment. As we look to the future, our state’s collective success depends on creating an inclusive, qualified and thriving workforce that can help bring Georgia into the future. My top mission is to proactively explore new ways to train and recruit Georgia talent to meet the growing needs of a dynamic economy while working with businesses to adopt practices that keep the best talent in Georgia. I am grateful to Lt. Governor Jones for trusting me with this work and look forward to working alongside this bipartisan coalition of legislators and leaders.”

The Senate Study Committee was established pursuant to Senate Resolution 275, sponsored by Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell), which passed during the 2023 Legislative Session with bipartisan support. The committee will be comprised of both legislative and non-legislative members: Sen. Albers as Chairman, Sen. Brandon Beach (R – Alpharetta), Sen. Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta), Sen. Halpern, Sen. Billy Hickman (R – Statesboro), Champ Bailey, Joseph McDermott, Ryan Pernice, Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Greg Dozier, Dave Williams, and Daniela Perry.
