ATLANTA (Jan. 8, 2010) – State Sen. Donzella James (D-Atlanta) will select 35 community leaders from the 35th district to participate in an Ambassador Round Table. The mission of the program is to make government more accessible and easier for constituents to understand by allowing community leaders to become a part of the process. Sen. James will attend the meetings and use the suggestions from the ambassadors to create legislation based on the needs of the community. No issue will be off limits during the meetings with topics ranging from education, the economy and health care.
“I want my constituents to know they have a role in how their government works. This program will allow community leaders from all walks of life to collaborate and create ideas that will help the community,” said Sen. James. “Our community needs to know their voices are being heard, and that I am doing all that I can at the Capitol to improve the district.”
In addition to the Ambassador Round Table, Sen. James will create a Youth Round Table comprised of the student body presidents or vice presidents from the 16 high schools in the district. The youth group will hold regular meetings and host a mock session once a year.
“The Youth Round Table will give students hands on experience on how government works,” said Sen. James. “Everyone needs to work together in order to make our community grow in a positive direction.”
Sen. Donzella James represents the 35th Senate District which includes portions of Douglas and Fulton counties. She may be reached by phone at 404.463.1379 or by e-mail at donzella.james@senate.ga.gov.
