ATLANTA (December 5, 2013) – Senator Josh McKoon (R – Columbus) commends today’s announcement from Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia to acquire $3.15 Million in funding for the Troup County College and Career Academy. Funding for the Troup County College and Career Academy was made possible through a partnership between the Troup County School System and the West Georgia Technical System.
“College and Career Academies provide a pathway to success for many Georgia students,” said Sen. McKoon. “I would like to applaud the efforts of the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle for working to make funding for our state’s technical programs a top priority.”
With 29 accredited institutions throughout the state, Georgia’s college and career programs offer affordable degree options focused on equipping students with marketable skills to enter the workforce. These specialized training academies are the result of partnerships between the state technical college system, local school systems, other post-secondary institutions and local businesses to provide high school and college level programs to allow students to earn specialized credentials and certifications.

Their proven success at providing our children the relevant, job-related skills they need is more important than ever in these tough economic times,” said Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. “I applaud the Troup County School System, West Georgia Technical College, the Troup County business leaders, and the many community partners that came together to provide this important tool to ensure our students are prepared to enter the 21st Century workforce. Additionally I would like to recognize Senators Josh McKoon and Mike Crane for their tireless efforts in support of this exciting new educational opportunity in Troup County.”
The Troup County College and Career Academy was among three other Georgia College and Career Academies chosen to receive a grant and will receive local matching dollars.
