Sen. Jackson and Organizing for Action Stand in Solidarity with President Obama’s Plan on Gun Violence Prevention

022213_PCJacksonATLANTA (February 22, 2013) –Senator Lester Jackson (D-Savannah) held a press conference today with Organizing for Action and Senator Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) to mobilize efforts for legislation to prevent gun violence.

“As state legislators, our business should be about serving and protecting the interests for our community. Gun violence prevention is our business,” said Sen. Jackson.  “We have a problem with too many guns on our streets. We have a lot of work to do to ensure that we can live in a safe community and our kids can go to school in a safe environment.”

Sen. Jackson will soon introduce legislation into the State Senate that would make back ground checks mandatory when purchasing firearms.  Additionally, he has joined Sen. Fort and the Senate Democratic Caucus in supporting legislative priorities that seek to ban assault weapons, limit ammunition and magazine clips and restrict use of the “stand your ground” law, among other provisions.

Organizing for Action is a nonprofit organization established to support President Obama in achieving enactment of the national agenda Americans voted for on Election Day 2012. OFA will advocate for these policies throughout the country and will mobilize citizens of all parties and diverse points to speak out for speedy passage and effective implementation of this program, including gun control, sensible environmental policies to address climate change and immigration reform.
