Sen. Bruce Thompson Gives Lecture at Georgia State University

ATLANTA (October 31, 2019) | Senator Bruce Thompson (R – White) recently led a lecture to a class of computer information systems students at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University on October 29, 2019. The topic of the discussion was on the future challenges and opportunities of cybersecurity, with a specific focus on the dangers of deepfakes.

“Educating the public on deepfake technology is so important because not only can it affect the leaders of our country, but it can affect the average person, as well,” said Sen. Thompson. “Your identity is your asset. It is one of the most defining, yet vulnerable, features of someone’s life and unfortunately, deepfake technology can destroy anyone in just 10 seconds. The students in the computer information systems’ program are our future leaders in the technology industry and I am happy I was able to talk to them about such a critical issue.”

Sen. Thompson’s lecture at Georgia State University highlights his extensive involvement with cybersecurity in the state of Georgia. He previously served as chair of the Senate Study Committee on Cyber Security Education and consecutively introduced Senate Bill 315, a modification to the Georgia Computer Systems Protection Act. Most recently, Sen. Thompson announced the release of “The State of Cybersecurity Among Georgia Hospitals” report, which was conducted with the Institute for Healthcare Information Reform.
