Georgia Senate Approves Resolution Creating the Joint Entrepreneur in Residence Study Committee

ATLANTA (March 13, 2015)  |  Sen. Judson Hill sponsored Senate Resolution 114, which creates the Joint Entrepreneur in Residence Study Committee. The study committee will focus on how the private and public sector can help develop an even more favorable environment to support inventors, entrepreneurs and investors developing early stage technology companies. The resolution was approved by the Senate on the 30th day of the 2015 legislative session.

“This Joint Senate and House Resolution in intended to create a legislative discussion to focus on an important industry. I am pleased the Senate recognizes the need to expand explore best practices and methods to encourage or support inventors and early stage technology companies develop, expand and employ Georgians; as well as make Georgia a destination state for technology start-up companies,” said Sen. Hill.

A Senate Entrepreneur in Residence Study Committee was originally created during the 2014 legislative session. Throughout the legislative interim, the committee met with angel investors, entrepreneurs, small business owners and other stakeholders to discuss where government regulations create an unnecessary obstacle for the starting or operating a small business in Georgia. The joint study committee will facilitate the same discussions in 2015, as well as search for successful small business owners and operators who may serve as mentors to others who are starting small businesses throughout the state.

The committee will be composed of six members. Three will be appointed by the President of the Senate, one of which will serve as a co-chair. The Speaker of the House of Representatives will also appoint three members to the study committee, one of which will also serve as a co-chair. The joint committee will be responsible for reporting its findings on or before December 1, 2015.

Senate Resolution 114 will now transfer to the House of Representatives for approval.
