Senate Passes Legislation to Provide Atlanta Public Schools Homestead Exemption for Atlanta Seniors

ATLANTA (Feb. 13, 2024) – Today, the Georgia State Senate passed Senate Bill 439 through the Local Consent Calendar. Sponsored by Sen. Jason Esteves (D-Atlanta), the measure proposes a senior homestead exemption from City of Atlanta Independent School District ad valorem taxes for educational purposes, in the amount of $100,000 of the assessed value of the homestead. This exemption is applicable to residents of Atlanta who are 65 years of age or older, with a single or combined household income not exceeding $100,000.

Senator Jason Esteves Appointed to Georgia Council on Literacy

ATLANTA (May 18, 2023) | On Tuesday, Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta) was appointed to serve on the Georgia Council on Literacy by Lt. Governor Burt Jones. The Georgia Council on Literacy was created by Senate Bill 211 during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session and will be comprised of ten members of the Georgia Legislature and twenty citizen members who are experts in literacy and education.

Sen. Jason Esteves Hosts Town Hall to Update Constituents on Cobb County Sterigenics Facility

ATLANTA (March 15, 2023) | Yesterday, March 14, 2023, Senator Jason Esteves (D – Atlanta) hosted a virtual town hall for constituents to discuss the Sterigenics facility located within his district in Cobb County. Sterigenics, a medical sterilization company, is facing legal action after it was revealed in 2019 that its Cobb County facility had emitted dangerous levels of ethylene oxide, a cancer-causing chemical.
