Sen. John Wilkinson Appointed to COPS Task Force
ATLANTA (May 25, 2017) | Sen. John Wilkinson (R – Toccoa) was recently appointed to the Compensation of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) Task Force by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. The responsibility of the COPS Task Force is to examine the compensation needs of law enforcement officers and to consider ways to encourage retention and attract service in the field. “Cove’s Law” Signed into Georgia Law
CLEVELAND (May 24, 2017) | On Monday, May 8, 2017, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 241 into Georgia law. Senator Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega) carried HB 241 in the Senate to ensure Krabbe disease would be added to the list of metabolic and genetic conditions a baby is screened for at birth. Ms. Brooke Adams Nix, a White County teacher, brought to light the need for HB 241 and worked with Sen. Gooch and his colleagues to get Cove’s Law passed and signed into law. Sen. Renee Unterman to Host Mental Health Summit
ATLANTA (May 15, 2017) | Sen. Renee Unterman (R – Buford), along with Superior Court Judge Kathryn Schrader, will hold a Mental Health and Substance Abuse Summit at the Gwinnett County Courthouse on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 6:00pm. They will be joined by Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald, collaborative stakeholders and state and local community leaders.
The purpose of the summit is to bring together mental health stakeholders to discuss community based therapy services for people in need.
