RaShaun Kemp (D–Atlanta) recently introduced Senate Resolution 810 to emphasize the importance of transparency, community engagement, environmental stewardship and congressional oversight related to the proposed development or expansion of federal immigration detention facilities in Georgia. This measure aims to build on the federal efforts of U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who filed an amendment that would block the purchase of warehouses to be used as detention centers in Social Circle and Oakwood, Georgia.

Sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones II (D–Augusta), this measure aims to modernize Georgia’s discovery process in misdemeanor criminal cases by allowing defendants to opt into a reciprocal discovery system similar to the one already used in felony cases.

ATLANTA (February 26, 2026) — Today, the Senate passed Senate Bill 513, sponsored by Sen. Jason T. Dickerson (R–Canton), to encourage consistent attendance in Georgia public schools. Also known as the Every Day Counts Act, this bill requires schools to use a multi-tier framework to improve student attendance, including attendance intervention plans monitored by attendance review teams for students who miss five of the first 50 days of school or 10% of the overall school year.
