ATLANTA (April 8, 2015) | House Bill 110, carried by Sen. Jeff Mullis (R – Chickamauga), will allow the sale and regulation of consumer fireworks in Georgia. The bill passed by a vote of 43 to 7 on March 31, 2015. The bill will keep fireworks revenue in-state and greatly improve fireworks safety by defining regulations for sale and use in Georgia.

ATLANTA (April 8, 2015) | James magazine, one of Georgia’s leading publications discussing Georgia news and politics, has selected Sen. Jeff Mullis (R – Chickamauga) as one of the magazine’s Most Influential Georgians. The recognition was announced in the March/April 2015 issue of the magazine, which profiled statewide leaders in business, government, politics, education, science and the arts.

ATLANTA (April 7, 2015) | On Thursday, April 2, the Georgia House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 231 unanimously. Sen. Ronald Ramsey (D – Lithonia) sponsored SB 231 to create the City of Conyers Public Facilities Authority and appoint its members.

ATLANTA (April 2, 2015) | The Georgia State Senate gave final approval to changes incorporated by the House of Representatives on two companion bills aimed at halting the sexual exploitation of minors in Georgia. Senate Bill 8 extends the statute of limitations in order to bring more severe punishments to those capitalizing on the innocence of a child and establishes a fund for victims of sex trafficking. Senate Resolution 7 provides the funding mechanism for the Commission established in Senate Bill 8 by increasing the penalties for several sexual abuse and sex trafficking crimes. Rep. Tom Weldon (R – Ringgold) carried the legislation in the House for the bill’s original sponsor, Sen. Renee Unterman (R – Buford).
