Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch Announced as 2023 GHLA ‘Legislator of the Year’

ATLANTA (Dec. 4, 2023) — In a Nov. 29 ceremony at the GHLA Stars of the Lodging Industry Celebration, Majority Leader Steve Gooch (R–Dahlonega) was recognized as the 2023 Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association (GHLA). This prestigious award reflects Leader Gooch’s dedication to public service and his contributions to the betterment of Georgia’s tourism industry.

Jim Sprouse, Executive Director of GHLA, commended the Majority Leader, stating, “Leader Gooch has been a tireless advocate for the lodging industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities it faces. Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch Announced as 2023 Georgia Chamber ‘Legislator of the Year’

ATLANTA (June 16, 2023) | Last week, Majority Leader Sen. Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega) was announced as one of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Legislators of the Year. The award is given to three members of the Georgia General Assembly whose efforts have focused on promoting economic development, job creation and free enterprise.

“One of my top priorities as the Senate Majority Leader is to foster economic opportunity through innovation. I am honored to receive such recognition from the Georgia Chamber which utilizes strategic advocacy to achieve the very same goal across our state,” said Majority Leader Gooch. “It is imperative that Georgia maintains its record of being the best state to do business, and I will always strive to support our business enterprises both large and small through my work in the Georgia State Senate. Governor Brian Kemp Signs Legislation to Establish Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission

ATLANTA (May 8, 2023) | On May 5, 2023, Governor Brian P. Kemp signed Senate Bill 92 into law. This measure, sponsored by Majority Whip Senator Randy Robertson (R – Cataula), will create the Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission, which would have the power to investigate and discipline or remove elected district attorneys or solicitors-general in specific instances, including if they are consistently not fulfilling their duties as such. SB 92 also clarifies the duties of prosecuting attorneys, specifically including language that they must review every case where there is probable cause for prosecution.

Governor Kemp Signs Legislation to Strengthen Georgia’s Workforce

ATLANTA (April 28, 2023) | Yesterday, Governor Brian P. Kemp signed Senate Bill 3 into law. Sponsored by Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell), this measure requires the Department of Administrative Services to frequently assess a number of educational and experience requirements necessary for employment for state entities.
