ATLANTA (January 10, 2023) | Yesterday, the Women’s Legislative Caucus hosted an event to recognize House Speaker Jan Jones as the first female House Speaker in Georgia’s history. Women’s Legislative Caucus Co-Chairs, Sen. Sally Harrell (D – Atlanta) and Rep. Kimberly Alexander (D – Atlanta), along with members of the bipartisan bicameral caucus, honored Speaker Jones for breaking barriers for women and girls in Georgia and for her steady leadership after assuming the position during the difficult time following Speaker David Ralston’s unexpected death in November 2022.

Senate Study Committee on People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Waiver Plan Access Approves Final Recommendations

ATLANTA (December 14, 2022) | The Senate Study Committee on People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Waiver Plan Access, co-chaired by Senator Sally Harrell (D – Atlanta) and Senator John Albers (R – Roswell), concluded its work today by approving the Committee’s final report and recommendations for the 2023 Legislative Session and beyond. The recommendations were a direct result of information and testimony gathered from individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, caregivers, service providers, and advocacy groups through a series of public meetings around the state and feedback submitted through from the Committee’s website. The testimony highlighted the significant challenges that adults with disabilities face, including lack of resources for in-home and group care, difficulties navigating the system for IDD services, and inadequate funding for service providers.

Senate Study Committee on People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Waiver Plan Access Holds Fifth Meeting

ATLANTA (November 18, 2022) | This week, the Senate Study Committee on People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Waiver Plan Access, co-chaired by Senator Sally Harrell (D – Atlanta) and Senator John Albers (R – Roswell), held its fifth and final public hearing. Since its inception, the Committee heard testimony from dozens of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers, service providers, and advocacy groups in Atlanta, Rome, Tifton, and throughout the state via the Committee’s website.
