ATLANTA, GA (January 29, 2009) — The joint Senate and House Commission on Sexual Exploitation of Minors announced their legislative recommendations for the 2009 General Assembly today during a press conference at the Capitol. Three potential pieces of legislation that have emerged from the study committee are to implement a surcharge on the entrance into an adult entertainment business, changing the age of erotic dancers from a minimum age of 18 to 21 and to require proof of age, and tie enforcement to licensing regulations. Senate and House Economic Development Committees Discuss Georgia’s Housing Market

ATLANTA – (December 10, 2008) Co-chairmen State Sen. Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville) and Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) held a Joint Economic Development Committee meeting at the Capitol today to discuss the condition of Georgia’s housing industry. Committee members were joined by experts in the economic, building, and real estate industries to focus on how the market is affecting local industries and what can be done at the state level to ease the downturn.

Joint Legislative Panel holds Public Hearing on Department of Human Resources Restructuring Plan

ATLANTA (November 20, 2008) – Co-chairpersons Senator Renee Unterman (R-Buford) and Representative Mark Butler (R-Carrollton) led a joint Legislative Public Hearing today at the State Capitol to address the current status of the Department of Human Resources (DHR) restructuring efforts. The reorganization would create three separate departments reporting directly to the Governor: the Department of Human Services, the Department of Health, and the Department of Behavioral Health.

Senate Discusses Budgets and Programs of Human Development

ATLANTA (November 17, 2008) – The joint Senate Appropriations subcommittee continued its meeting series today with the Human Development subcommittee and the Best Value in Government Task Force joint workshop at the Capitol. The subcommittee discussed agency reports, efficiencies, and cost savings for the Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Services, and Department of Human Resources (DHR). Senators Renee Unterman (R-Buford) and Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) co-chaired the meeting.
