ATLANTA (March 2, 2026) — Sen. RaShaun Kemp (D–Atlanta) recently introduced Senate Resolution 810 to emphasize the importance of transparency, community engagement, environmental stewardship and congressional oversight related to the proposed development or expansion of federal immigration detention facilities in Georgia. This measure aims to build on the federal efforts of U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who filed an amendment that would block the purchase of warehouses to be used as detention centers in Social Circle and Oakwood, Georgia.

Sen. RaShaun Kemp to Hold Joint Press Conference on Students’ Right to Protest

ATLANTA (February 23, 2026) — Tomorrow, February 24, Sen. RaShaun Kemp (D–Atlanta) will host a press conference with Rep. Bryce Berry (D–Atlanta), Georgia students, and Atlanta Public Schools board members to highlight Senate Bill 479 and House Bill 1239, legislation aimed at protecting students’ First Amendment rights and expanding civic engagement opportunities in schools. In response to local retaliation against student walkouts, this bill seeks to encourage student participation in civic activities, including visiting the capitol, attending protests and strikes.
