Georgia Legislators Work to Establish Rules for Article V Amendment Convention

ATLANTA (July 3, 2014)  |  Sen. Bill Cowsert (R – Athens) and Rep. Bruce Williamson (R – Monroe) participated in The Assembly of State Legislatures’ most recent meeting on June 12 and 13 at the Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis. Formerly known as The Mount Vernon Assembly, the bipartisan group of current state legislators met to continue work on establishing rules and regulations for Article V conventions as defined by the United States Constitution. The Assembly of State Legislatures is focused on determining the rules and procedures controlling any future Article V convention for proposing amendments to the Constitution. Sen. Vincent Fort to Speak at Thomaston Community Rally to Call for Firing of Suspended Officer

ATLANTA (June 30, 2014)  |  Sen. Vincent Fort (D- Atlanta) will join community leaders and civil rights activists, TOMORROW, July 1, 2014 at 7 p.m.  to call on the City of Thomaston to fire Officer Phillip Tobin, who is on paid leave after he tasered a local citizen earlier this month. Tobin has an astonishing record of citizen complaints going back many years.

Sen. Ross Tolleson Attends NCSL North Dakota Energy Tour

ATLANTA (June 17, 2014) |  Sen. Ross Tolleson (R- Perry) attended the National Conference of State Legislature’s (NCSL) summer North Dakota Energy Tour last week in Bismarck, N.D.  Legislators from across the country were invited to tour modern coal mines and power plants to see how the industry is addressing environmental issues and using advanced technologies to produce power with lignite coal more cleanly. Sen. Donzella James Dedicates Douglas County Bridge in Honor of Fallen Vietnam Solider

ATLANTA (June 10, 2014)  |  Today, Sen. Donzella James (D-Atlanta) held a commemorative ceremony to honor Private First Class Melvin Johnson, the first African American solider from Douglas County to lose his life in the Vietnam War.  She was joined by members of his family has they dedicated the bridge on state Route 166 over Anneewakee Creek to be renamed in his honor.
