ATLANTA (June 16, 2023) | On Tuesday, the Senate Study Committee on Certificate of Need (CON) Reform, chaired by Senator Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming), held its first meeting which consisted of presentations by healthcare industry professionals and other stakeholders on the efficacy of CON laws in Georgia. The committee has been tasked with exploring what health system regulations other states have implemented to come up with solutions that increase Georgians’ access to medical care. Presentations were followed by public testimony and an in-depth Q&A.

ATLANTA (June 12, 2023) | Tomorrow, the Senate Study Committee on Certificate of Need (CON) Reform, chaired by Senator Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming), will be holding its first meeting at 9:00 a.m. in 450 CAP. The Senate Study Committee on CON Reform was established through the passage of Senate Resolution 279, sponsored by Chairman Dolezal during the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session. The committee has been tasked with reviewing the state of the Certificate of Need program in Georgia. The committee will hold a series of meetings throughout the state, with future meeting dates to be announced at a later time. ATLANTA (March 13, 2023) | On Monday, March 6, 2023, Senate Bill 233, the “Georgia Promise Scholarship Act,” passed the Georgia Senate. Sponsored by Chief Deputy Whip Sen. Greg Dolezal (R – Cumming), the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act would establish a state-funded $6,000 promise scholarship to be used towards qualified education expenses for each participating Georgia student. Students attending public schools in the lower quartile of academic performance statewide would be eligible for the scholarship. Further, SB 233 would prohibit the parents or legal guardians from having direct access to their child’s funds to prevent the misallocation of these funds for non-educational expenses. Annual standardized testing and audits would ensure the success and integrity of the program.
