Sen. Jones to Host Henry County Town Hall Meeting

ATLANTA (October 5, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) will host a town hall meeting in conjunction with the Henry County NAACP on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Fairview Elementary School.  Candidates running for local office in Henry County will attend, including candidates for the local school board, county commission and legislature.  The meeting will include a panel discussion and a question and answer session.  The public is invited to attend.

Sen. Jones Announces Henry County Town Hall Meetings

ATLANTA (September 13, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) will hold two town hall meetings in Henry County later this month.  On Thursday, Sept. 23, Jones will hold a joint meeting with Henry County Commissioner Johnny Basler at Woodland Elementary School to discuss local issues and deliver a legislative wrap up of the 2010 Legislative Session.  The public is encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to ask questions.

DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee to Hold First Meeting at the Capitol

ATLANTA (September 8, 2010) – Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) will co-chair the first meeting of the DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 in Room 341 of the State Capitol.  The meeting will feature a presentation from State Superintendent of Schools Brad Bryant.  The media is invited to participate in a question and answer session after the presentations, and the public is encouraged to attend.

DeKalb Lawmakers launch Committee to help Local School Board

ATLANTA (August 26, 2010) – State Senate and House members are forming a legislative review committee in response to the DeKalb County school board’s changing leadership and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ (SACS) questions regarding the board’s practices.  Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) will co-chair the DeKalb School Board Legislative Review Committee and will hold their first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 341 of the State Capitol.

Congressman James Clyburn to be Keynote Speaker at Savannah GLBC Conference

ATLANTA (August 9, 2010) – Sens. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) and Lester Jackson (D-Savannah) are announcing that U.S. Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) will be the keynote speaker at the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus’ (GLBC) annual legislative conference in Savannah on Friday, August 27.  Jones serves as GLBC chairman, while Jackson is the caucus’ conference chairman.  The conference’s theme this is year is “A Dawn of a New Georgia,” which will highlight the new laws and policies passed by the Georgia Legislature that will impact the general welfare of the state.
