ATLANTA (February 12, 2009) — As Georgia continues to suffer a record-breaking drought, Sen. Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville) yesterday passed a resolution in the Senate urging Congress to facilitate the building of reservoirs in north Georgia to ensure the state has an adequate water supply.
Senator Hooks Appointed to Regional Water Council
ATLANTA (Feb. 12, 2009) – Governor Sonny Perdue, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle and Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson have appointed Sen. George Hooks(D-Americus) to the Regional Water Council. Hooks will work with fellow council members to create an effective water management plan for the region. The plan will focus on both water quantity and water quality issues, and will include forecasts of future water supply and wastewater treatment needs.

Georgia Power Financing Bill Passes in the Senate
ATLANTA (Feb. 11, 2009) – Today the Senate took great strides in saving taxpayers and Georgia Power customers significant money by passing the Georgia Nuclear Energy Financing Act, Senate Bill 31. The bill allows recovering of financing costs during the construction of two nuclear power generators rather than have the financing costs compounded at the end of the project. Sen. Don Balfour, chairman of the Rules Committee, sponsored the bill.

Adelman Introduces Renewable Energy Bill
ATLANTA (Feb. 11, 2009) – State Senator David Adelman wants Georgia to be in a strong position to take advantage of the more than $70 billion dollars for renewable energy initiatives in the federal economic stimulus plan. To meet this objective, Senator Adelman today introduced a renewable energy bill requiring electric service providers to gradually increase the amount of renewable and recoverable energy generation in their portfolios. Notes from the Georgia Senate

ATLANTA (Feb. 9, 2009) – Last week, I introduced Senate Bill 57, which reforms the Georgia Fair Lending Act (GFLA). As Georgia continues to set record foreclosures, I am reaching out to homeowners, renters and lenders to make a positive difference. Georgia needs to protect its homeowners and tenants in the event of foreclosures. It also needs to prevent unscrupulous mortgage brokers from encouraging their clients to take on loans with higher interest rates than they really qualify for.
