MARIETTA (Sept. 24, 2009) – Members of the Cobb County Legislative Delegation have been inundated with calls from their constituents asking how Cobb residents can help their neighbors who have been devastated by this week’s floods. They are pleased to announce the Center for Family Resources (CFR) in Marietta has set up a special account for this purpose. All donations will remain in Cobb County to help those affected while they anxiously await federal funds. There will be a specific designated donation block on the Center for Family Resources main page at www.thecfr.org.
Sen. Unterman Applauds the Buford-Lanier Women’s Club on supporting our troops in Iraq
ATLANTA (Sept. 24, 2009) – Yesterday the Buford Lanier Women’s Club (BLWC) held a banner hanging ceremony to honor and encourage our troops currently serving in Iraq. The banner was originally created in Buford, has traveled to Iraq, and has returned to Georgia to permanently hang in the Sloppy Floyd Building in Atlanta.

Last week, President Obama presented his health care proposal to the nation through a joint session of Congress. In the past 50 years, a joint session of Congress has only been called 15 times. While I support the urgency of health care reform, I strongly disagree with him on how to address the problem. The President argues that his plan will be self sustaining, but I’ve never seen the federal government live within its means. Government programs are never temporary. As Ronald Reagan used to say, “The closest thing to eternal life we will see on this earth is a federal program.”

State of Emergency Declared in Stephens County
ATLANTA (Sept. 22, 2009) – State Senator Jim Butterworth (R-Clarkesville) led efforts with Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) to declare a state of emergency in Stephens County. There are 17 counties total on the list.
