Sen. Hardie Davis Named Chairman of Interstate Cooperation Committee

ATLANTA (January 15, 2013) – Sen. Hardie Davis (D-Augusta) has been named Chairman of the Senate Interstate Cooperation Committee for the 2013 – 2014 term by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I’m honored to have been selected to chair the Interstate Cooperation committee,” said Sen. Davis. “I will work with my colleagues to ensure that Georgia creates and maintains positive relationships with our neighboring states to ensure the welfare of all citizens.”

Legislative issues concerning the relations of Georgia with other states, as well as any matter that involves equal collaboration between said states, are within the jurisdiction of the Interstate Cooperation Committee.

Sen. Davis is also a member of the Ethics, Finance and Higher Education committees.

Sen. Frank Ginn Named Chairman of the Senate Economic Development Committee

ATLANTA (January 15, 2013) – Sen. Frank Ginn (R- Danielsville) has been named Chairman of the Senate Economic Development Committee for the 2013- 2014 term by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I am honored that my colleagues have chosen me to serve as Chairman of the Senate Economic Development Committee, said Sen. Ginn. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate, our Lt. Governor and our Governor to create an environment that promotes business growth and opportunities in Georgia during these challenging economic times.”

Primary jurisdictions for Economic Development include economic development, business, trade, and any proposed measures that affect the presence of tourism throughout the state.

In addition to his chairmanship duties, Sen. Ginn will also serve as Vice Chair of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee, and as a member of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Natural Resources and the Environment Committees.

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a Committee, depending on its topic.  If the Committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, then the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration.  The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.

Sen. Tolleson Re-Appointed Natural Resources and Environment Chair

ATLANTA (January 15, 2013) – Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) has been re-appointed Chairman of the Senate Natural Resources and Environment Committee for the 2013- 2014 term by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I am honored to continue my service as chairman of this essential committee,” said Sen. Tolleson.  “I’m determined to capitalize and conserve our natural resources and environment through innovative ideas and suggestions throughout the session.”

The Natural Resources and the Environment Committee addresses issues such as energy resources and development, including regulation, conservation, strategic reserves and standards; public lands and their renewable resources; surface mining, coal, oil, and gas, other mineral leasing; and water resources.

Sen. Tolleson was also selected as the Vice Chair of the Rules Committee and as a member of the Transportation and Appropriations Committees.
