Sen. Hardie Davis Gives Policy Presentation to Georgia State University Students
ATLANTA (February 19, 2013) – Sen. Hardie Davis (D – Augusta) gave a special policy presentation to Georgia State University’s “Health and the Older Adult” class on Tuesday, February 12. The nonpartisan overview focused on legislative efforts regarding health promotion and prevention, Medicare and Medicaid, prescription drug access and working with faith-based communities to assist in the healthcare needs of Georgia’s elderly population.
“During my presentation, I provided real-life examples of how legislation affects every part of our lives, even as we grow older,” said Sen. Davis. “Georgia’s elderly population is living longer, healthier lives because of the dedication and work by these students and others in similar aging studies programs across the state. It is vital that Georgia graduate more health professionals such as these students who can aid an aging population. Fewer resources exist to meet the health demands of the elderly population in Georgia at a very critical time and I applaud these students for caring enough to take on this healthcare challenge.”
Most students enrolled in the “Health and the Older Adult” class are also students of the Gerontology Institute at Georgia State University, which is committed to educating the next generation of experts in aging and conducting ground-breaking research in gerontology Nearly 500 students have graduated from the Gerontology Institute over the past three decades.
