The “Shawn Smiley Act” Becomes Law

ATLANTA (May 3, 2016) | On Tuesday, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law House Bill 54, known as the “Shawn Smiley Act.” HB 54 provides tuition grants to children of law enforcement and public safety officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. The bill was authored by Rep. Keisha Waites and carried by Sen. Nan Orrock (D – Atlanta) in the Senate. Senate Bill 208 Becomes Law with the Governor’s Signature

ATLANTA (April 25, 2016) | Last Thursday, Senate Bill 208 was signed by Governor Nathan Deal into law. Senator JaNice VanNess (R- Conyers) carried SB 208, which allows for a voter referendum that would incorporate and constitute a charter for the City of Stonecrest in DeKalb County if the measure is approved by voters during elections on May 24, 2016. Sen. Frank Ginn Receives “Champion of Georgia’s Cities” Award

ATLANTA (April 8, 2016)  |  Sen. Frank Ginn (R – Danielsville) received a “Champion of Georgia’s Cities” award from the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) for his work during the 2015 – 2016 legislative sessions. The award was presented to Sen. Ginn during the Auburn City Council meeting on Thursday, April 7. State legislators who most actively support GMA’s initiatives and goals are given this award at the end of every two-year legislative term. Continue reading “Sen.
