ATLANTA (July 24, 2019) |Recently, Sen. Zahra Karinshak (D – Duluth) was appointed to the Senate Athletic Association Study Committee by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan.
“High School athletics are some of the most popular events in our communities and are important in teaching students fundamental skills, both on and off the field,” said Sen. Karinshak. “However, the current structure of high school athletics in Georgia has led to substantive debate. I look forward to looking further into this issue as a part of this study committee and I would like to thank Lt. Governor Duncan for appointing me to be included in this committee’s important work.”
The Senate Athletic Association Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 304 during the 2019 Legislative Session. The committee is composed of five members of the Senate and will review how the Georgia High School Association is funded and alternative ways interscholastic athletic events can be structured. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2019.
