ATLANTA (September 21, 2015) | Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell) has been selected by the Georgia State Firefighters Association (GSFA) and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC) as a recipient of the GSFA / GAFC 2015 Legislator of the Year award.
“I am honored to have been selected by the Georgia State Firefighters Association and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs as a Legislator of the Year,” said Sen. Albers. “It means a great deal to me not only as a legislator, but as a fellow firefighter to have the privilege of serving my community and state.”
“Sen. Albers has been as strong on our issues as anyone I can remember in my time with the fire service,” said Dean King, president of GFSA. “His leadership on the cancer bill among other things made him an overwhelming choice of our board for legislator of the year.”
“Being a firefighter himself, Sen. Albers knows the difficult job firefighters around the state perform on a daily basis […] and realizes the issues that we deal with,” said Robert Singletary, president of GAFC. “He has always been there for the fire service during his time at the Capitol, whether it was working with a legislative issue or supporting the fire service in other ways such as attendance at events. It is with great gratitude the Georgia fire service was able to present Sen. Albers with the 2015 Legislator of the Year award at our annual conference.”
The GSFA / GAFC 2015 Legislator of the Year award goes to a legislator who works to support Georgia fire services. In the 2015 legislative session, Sen. Albers helped sponsor Senate Resolution 282, which pushed toward creating a Joint Peace Officer and Firefighter Occupational Disease Study Committee. Responsibilities of the committee included examining the various hazards and occupational diseases that are often the reason public safety personnel apply for workers’ compensation.
