ATLANTA (February 18, 2014) | Sen. Bruce Thompson (R – White) dropped Senate Resolution 785 to honor long-time Atlanta Braves’ pitcher Thomas Michael “Tom” Glavine.
“Tom is one of the best pitchers in baseball history,” said Sen. Thompson. “Even more, the work he and his wife Christina do through their foundation, CURE Childhood Cancer, is a great service to our community.”
Glavine’s decorated baseball career includes 305 wins, 10 All-Star Appearances, 4 Silver Slugger Awards, a World Series MVP and 2 Cy Young Awards. He was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in January.
“These last few months have been amazing,” said Glavine. “To be inducted into the Hall of Fame and now there’s a ‘Tom Glavine Day’ at the Capitol is something you only dream of as a little boy. I’m so thankful to The Lord, the Atlanta Braves, and my family for allowing this all to be possible. Bruce and I have been friends for years, and I am truly appreciative of his efforts to honor my career as an Atlanta Braves pitcher.”
February 18, 2014 was officially recognized as Tom Glavine Day at the Georgia State Capitol.
