ATLANTA (September 20, 2013) – State Senator Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) attended the Joint Savannah River Caucus Summit Sept. 18th in Lake Hartwell, Ga. Georgia and South Carolina lawmakers, along with members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, were in attendance to discuss adaptive water management and sign the Savannah River Basin Comprehensive Study.
“The Savannah River Basin is an influential natural resource that impacts the lives of both Georgians and South Carolinians,” said Sen. Tolleson. “As an economic stimulus for both states, we must continue a working partnership in order to preserve and sustain this essential river basin.”
During the summit, both Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley expressed their hopes for cooperation of the water management in Lake Hartwell, Savannah River and the Savannah River Basin.
Colonel Thomas Tickner, Commander of the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, signed the Savannah River Basin comprehensive study. This document authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study the basin for flood damage and drought preparedness, water supply and other related water issues.
