ATLANTA (May 7, 2013) – Senator Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) recently joined Governor Nathan Deal as he signed Senate Bill 113 into law.
“I commend Gov. Deal for recognizing the importance of this bill,” said Sen. Jones. “With businesses receiving summons every day, this bill will now serve as a safety net for business owners if the document were to end up in the wrong hands. I applaud my colleagues in the General Assembly for passing this crucial piece of legislation.”
Under current law, personal service is made by delivering the action to the president or other officer of the corporation, secretary, cashier, or managing agent. This legislation provides the service can be made only upon the registered agent, officer and managing agent of the corporation.
SB 113 will go into effect on July 1, 2013.
